TUE., APRIL 7 — The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has recognized FRONTLINE, the PBS investigative documentary series produced at GBH in Boston, with 19 News & Documentary Emmy Award nominations.
The nominated documentaries cover timely and essential local, national and global issues — including an indelible, longitudinal look at the realities of growing up poor in the United States; an examination of how and why the U.S. is more vulnerable than ever to climate change-related storms, an investigation into the arrest, torture and execution of detainees by the Assad regime during the Syrian war and more.
Of the 19 nominations, six are for 2000 Meters to Andriivka. The FRONTLINE FEATURES and Associated Press feature-length documentary is the latest film from Ukrainian filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov and the Oscar-winning team behind 20 Days in Mariupol. Following his unforgettable account of the war’s toll on civilians in Mariupol, Chernov turns his lens towards Ukrainian soldiers in 2000 Meters to Andriivka — who they are, where they came from, and the impossible decisions they face in the trenches as they fight for every inch of their land.
Two additional FRONTLINE FEATURES films — Antidote and Status: Venezuelan — were also nominated for Emmys. From director James Jones, Antidote exposes the cost of opposing Russian President Vladimir Putin. Director Mauricio Rodríguez Pons’ Status: Venezuelan, a short documentary in partnership with ProPublica, tells the story of one Venezuelan family trying to stay together — and stay in the U.S. legally. (FRONTLINE FEATURES is a new effort dedicated to producing cinematic feature-length and short documentaries for global, multiplatform distribution.)
Strike on Iran: The Nuclear Question, FRONTLINE’s documentary in partnership with The Washington Post, Evident Media and Bellingcat, also received three News Emmy nominations. From directors and producers Adam Desiderio and Sebastian Walker, Strike on Iran draws on both rare, on-the-ground access and in-depth forensic analysis, exploring the impact of the June 2025 Israel-U.S. bombing campaign on Iran’s nuclear program, including the scale of destruction on the ground and how the strikes were carried out — offering critical context of what led up to the current war.
“These nominations reflect the power of public media storytelling and its global reach,” says Raney Aronson-Rath, FRONTLINE’s editor-in-chief and executive producer. “We are so pleased to see these documentaries recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and share this incredible news with our film teams and editorial partners; with GBH, PBS and CPB, whose support on these films was critical; and of course, with our viewers, who have championed our journalism and helped make it possible to tell these important stories.”
