TUE., APRIL 7 — FRONTLINE, the PBS investigative documentary series produced at GBH in Boston, has received four George Foster Peabody Award nominations.
FRONTLINE FEATURES and The Associated Press’ feature-length documentary on the war in Ukraine, 2000 Meters to Andriivka, was nominated in the Documentary category. Filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov and the Oscar-winning team behind 20 Days in Mariupol explore the toll of the war on Ukrainian soldiers — capturing who they are, where they came from, and the impossible decisions they face in the trenches as they fight for every inch of their land.
FRONTLINE’s documentary Trump’s Power & the Rule of Law was nominated in the Public Service category. From acclaimed filmmakers Michael Kirk, Mike Wiser, Vanessa Fica and Philip Bennett, the documentary goes inside the high-stakes showdown between President Donald Trump and the courts over presidential power. Trump allies, opponents and experts talk about how he is testing the extent of his power, the legal pushback, and the impact on the rule of law. Two more FRONTLINE documentaries from 2025 were honored with nominations in the News category — Syria’s Detainee Files and The Rise and Fall of Terrorgram.
From a team that includes award-winning journalists and filmmakers Sara Obeidat, Sasha Joelle Achilli, Amel Guettatfi and Saad Al Nassife, Syria’s Detainee Files investigates what happened to some of the hundreds of thousands of people detained by Bashar al-Assad’s regime during the Syrian war. A co-production with the BBC, the film sheds new light on atrocities carried out during Assad’s reign, drawing on stunning firsthand testimony from former regime insiders and officers who carried them out, alongside the accounts of people who survived them.
In partnership with ProPublica, The Rise and Fall of Terrorgram investigates how a network known as Terrorgram spread extremism and violence. From an award-winning team led by reporters A.C. Thompson and James Bandler and acclaimed filmmakers Thomas Jennings and Annie Wong, the documentary traces the rise of a transnational online network of extremists accused of inciting acts of white supremacist terrorism and examines how various loosely-moderated platforms have become havens for extremist ideas and radicalization.
“We’re honored to see our journalism recognized with these George Foster Peabody nominations,” said FRONTLINE editor-in-chief and executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath. “These nominations acknowledge the power of investigative documentary storytelling, and the value of this public media reporting to the American public and to viewers around the globe.”
