Tonight, as we have for every election since 1988, FRONTLINE will present The Choice — our critically acclaimed election-year special offering interwoven investigative biographies of both major-party candidates.

Coming in the midst of an unprecedented campaign season that saw the felony conviction of former President Trump, two assassination attempts against him, and President Joe Biden’s exit from the race less than four months before the election, this two-hour documentary is from award-winning filmmaker Michael Kirk and his team, who have made five prior installments of The Choice over the past 25 years.

They sat down with those who know Donald Trump and Kamala Harris best — friends, advisors and critics, as well as authors, journalists and political insiders — to present deeply reported narrative arcs of both candidates’ lives, going all the way back to their childhoods.

What emerges in The Choice 2024: Harris vs. Trump is the story of two fighters: One seeking vindication and promising a return to greatness, and the other seeking to move beyond the past and promising a greater future.

At a time when voters are being surrounded with partisanship and misinformation, I hope you will find tonight’s documentary to be a tough, fair and illuminating look at who Harris and Trump are, what shaped their lives and their characters, and how they arrived at their dueling visions for America’s future.

Watch The Choice 2024: Harris vs. Trump tonight, Sept. 24, at 9/8c on PBS stations (check local listings) and on FRONTLINE’s YouTube channel, and at 7/6c in the PBS App and at pbs.org/frontlineThe Choice 2024 will also be available on the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel.

We’ll be publishing more than 30 extended interviews from the making of The Choice 2024 tonight as part of the FRONTLINE Transparency Project, which makes our source material available to the public.

And we’ll follow tonight’s film in two weeks with something very special. For the first time in our history, we are producing a Choice documentary about the vice presidential candidates. The VP Choice: Vance vs. Walz will premiere Tuesday, October 8.

We thank you for watching, as you make your choice.
