María José Calderón
Documentary Producer & Editor
Maria Jose Calderon (Majo) is a documentary filmmaker, producer, and editor. She received an undergraduate degree in film direction from the Universidad de Artes y Ciencias (ARCIS) in Santiago, Chile, and a Master’s degree from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Her thesis film, “The Edge of the Sea,” aired on the PBS series Natural Heroes. She associate-produced “The Judge and the General,” which aired on POV in 2007.
For ESPN 30 for 30, she produced “The Opposition.” She has produced and edited documentaries and series for Univision, CNN, Netflix, AJ+, the Goldman Environmental Prize, and Latino Public Broadcasting.
Most recently Calderon co-produced “COVID’s Hidden Toll” for FRONTLINE, edited “Migrant Journeys” for the Link TV documentary series Global Mosaic and was producer and editor of “A Pescador In the Town,” a mini-documentary for the PBS / Latino Public Broadcasting’s “Latinos are Essential” series.
